What sets EDA apart from other “replaceable software”: EDA’s moat fundamentally comes not from the data EDA holds, but from the verified tools themselves that only EDA has. But once AI chip design takes off, it becomes possible to convert this verification work into tool revenue. In other words, EDA that used to be sold per seat can be transitioned to a usage based billing model. The countless design and verification iterations that used to be buried inside engineers’ labor costs can now be directly measured and billed as EDA compute and tool invocations consumed by AI agents. It means EDA itself can be sold like Claude Code or an API. Especially now that AI chip design is starting to take hold in earnest, I see a strong possibility of a loop where AI chip design advances -> AI calls EDA more -> EDAmaxxing happens.

How Australia is turning abandoned gold mines into giant batteries
There’s a hole in the ground in North Queensland that spent ninety years producing gold. Now it’s being converted into a 250 MW pumped hydro plant /Genex/, storing roughly 2,000 megawatt-hours by moving water between two old mine pits. Pumped hydro is already the largest form of grid-scale storage on the planet, bigger than every battery installation combined, and engineers are now eyeing hundreds of thousands of abandoned mines as ready-made sites.

Z1T: Sparse Transformer‑Like Models for Probabilistic Hardware
However, it goes without saying that the most dominant family of algorithms today is the Transformer. Training and inference for Transformer-based models account for an enormous share of the workloads being executed on modern digital hardware accelerators. The market’s seemingly insatiable demand for running more instances of this architecture has led to one of the largest industrial buildouts in recent history, commanding extreme financial costs and causing a sharp spike in energy demand.
Our chip, Z1, is built as a graphical model of probabilistic bits (pbits). These are binary stochastic CMOS circuits whose probability is controlled by a bias induced by neighboring pbits. The chip samples from a programmable Ising model and updates the states via Gibbs sampling at a 50 MHz internal update clock. Each pbit draws a new value conditioned on its neighbors, executing a chromatic Gibbs sampling algorithm in-memory. When two pbits have a connection, in physics one calls this a “coupling” between spins in the Ising model.

Helogen Announces October Missions to Advance Commercial Manufacturing in Orbit and Establish First Regulatory Pathway
Helogen, the company building autonomous factories in space for advanced material production, announced two missions scheduled for October 2026. The missions will support the manufacturing of biomaterials for artificial retinas and orthopedic applications, while advancing the company’s work toward GMP-compliant production and FDA review.
